Projects
The Bnai Zion Library of Peace serves the community's educational needs, for young and old alike, through modern technology. The library is multi-functional to accommodate the young and old. The Bert Ordan Computer Department computers connect the library to the National Library at the Hebrew University. The various sections cover all areas of interest reflecting the diverse community of Ma'aleh Adumim.
Education is of prominent importance in the quality of life in this young vibrant city. The community's goal is to provide the highest quality of education and culture from kindergarten through high school. The educational system consists of 64 schools and one college. Continued major expansion is already in the planning stage.
Bnai Zion Foundation, as part of a comprehensive educational component, financially supported the building and creation of the Library of Peace. This library serves the community of Ma'aleh Adumim and the entire surrounding region. The library features an area devoted to the history and achievements of Bnai Zion, providing a showcase for our long and proud history.
The city of Ma'aleh Adumim, with a population in excess of 36,000 people, strategically situated just seven minutes east of Jerusalem, forms part of the protective belt surrounding Israel's capital. Its importance to Israel transcends party lines - principals in all of the major political parties have endorsed its strategic value. Its regional library serves the residents of Ma'aleh Adumim as well as the entire surrounding region.
The challenging economic situation in Israel has taken its toll on the residents of Ma’aleh Adumim, especially the children. With a significant number of young people below the poverty line, Bnai Zion has undertaken to provide critical assistance to the town’s residents. Adjacent to the library, Bnai Zion has made a commitment to build a Music Conservatory, which will allow the sounds of peace to resonate throughout the region by educating both children and adults of all musical talents and capabilities.
Because of low budgetary allotments, the desirable quality of life attracting newcomers and ever-increasing needs, Ma’aleh Adumim must rely upon donor support. Continuing needs include completing the cultural center, which still needs equipment and furnishings; increasing the amount of playground equipment; adding computers to the educational system; building three new preschools for an expanding population; providing air conditioning in all the schools, as summer temperatures can be excessive; providing new security vehicles for roving 24-hour detection and protection; and expanding the Center for Special Needs Children, which serves one hundred children in the community.
